Bangladesh EC under fire for charging voters Tk5000 per postal ballot

Bangladesh's Election Commission accelerated preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary vote as officials raced against time. Commission members held their eighth meeting Thursday and made crucial decisions about the electoral process. Workers throughout the organization have noticed increased activity levels as bosses push forward with planning efforts. The commission wants to rebuild trust after previous elections damaged relationships with political parties. Election officials believe they can create a credible voting environment once the announcement gets made.

Overseas citizens will get the chance to participate through postal voting systems during the parliamentary elections. Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah calculated that government post offices would charge 700 taka per ballot for expatriate voters. Private courier companies like DHL might demand up to 5,000 taka for each vote submission according to commission estimates. Information technology specialists will help determine the final voting method for citizens living abroad. Electronic voting machines will stay out of both parliamentary and local government contests.

Five specialized committees started working Wednesday under separate office orders from election bosses. Different commissioners took charge of each seven-member coordination team with distinct responsibilities. Tahmida Ahmad leads the group handling polling officer training while Sanaullah manages law enforcement coordination. Anwarul Islam Sarker oversees field administration partnerships and Abdur Rahmanel Masud monitors electoral laws. The committees will guide preparations until voting day arrives for millions of registered citizens.
