Bangladesh is having a total meltdown over some new election maps

Citizens across Bangladesh demonstrated against electoral boundary changes announced by the Election Commission for the February 2026 general elections. Activists in Bagerhat organized sit-ins at government offices, demanding preservation of the district's four parliamentary seats. Heavy rainfall failed to deter protesters who marched from the deputy commissioner's office to the election headquarters. They blocked entrances and surrounded administrative buildings while chanting demands.

Residents of Faridpur's Bhanga upazila launched a three-day transportation shutdown opposing the reassignment of Algi and Hamirdi unions from Faridpur-4 to Faridpur-2 constituency. Demonstrators blocked multiple bus stations and railway crossings throughout the area. The Shorbodolio Songram Committee organized a complete strike in Pabna's Bera upazila against removal from the Pabna-1 constituency. Protesters established roadblocks along the Dhaka-Pabna highway while businesses remained closed. The demonstrations reflected widespread opposition to the electoral redistricting decisions across multiple districts.
