Bangladesh Navy leaders celebrated the launch of three new diving boats at Khulna Naval Berth today. Admiral M Nazmul Hassan handed command papers to boat captains during the ceremony. The vessels carry the names Pankouri, Gangchil and Machranga. Workers at Khulna Shipyard built all three boats using local technology and materials. Navy officials praised the achievement as proof of the country's growing shipbuilding skills.
Construction began when crews laid the keels on June 10, 2021. Shipyard teams completed the boats and delivered them to naval forces on May 6, 2025. Each vessel measures 38.90 meters long and 9 meters wide. The boats can reach speeds up to 15 nautical miles per hour on open water. Engineers equipped them with modern diving gear, navigation systems and a 12.7 mm machine gun for protection.
The new boats will handle many different naval missions around Bangladesh waters. Crews can use them for underwater diving work and salvage operations. The vessels will also help with rescue missions when disasters strike coastal areas. Navy teams plan to use the boats for maritime security patrols and law enforcement duties. Admiral Hassan said the boats show how Bangladesh Navy has grown since 1971 independence.
Rear Admiral Golam Sadek joined other military officers at the ceremony. Freedom fighters, ship crews and civilian officials also attended the event. The Admiral spoke about the Navy's role in protecting national waters and supporting economic growth. He noted how the service has become a modern three-dimensional fighting force.
