Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia ink labor recruitment deal, marking first formal general worker agreement

Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia signed a major agreement on labor recruitment on Thursday, establishing the first formal deal for general workers since the start of diplomatic relations between the two nations 50 years ago. The adviser to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment signed for Bangladesh, and the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development represented Saudi Arabia.

Bangladesh had previously sent workers to Saudi Arabia through informal channels and had only signed special agreements on domestic workers and skill certification. Officials expect this new agreement to expand skilled worker recruitment, enhance protections for both sides, and strengthen ties.

Before the signing, the two leaders discussed proper recruitment contracts, Iqama renewals, exit visas, and further cooperation in worker training and welfare. Several officials from both countries attended the event.
