Bangladesh to lock horns with Nepal in Kathmandu friendlies

The Bangladesh Football Federation announced two friendly matches against Nepal scheduled for September 6 and September 9 in Kathmandu. Federation officials initially sought opponents from Europe and Africa during the FIFA international window. Twenty-seven countries received invitations from Bangladesh, yet most rejected the proposals because of World Cup qualifying commitments. A proposed four-nation tournament in Sri Lanka collapsed before materialization. Nepal stepped forward as an available opponent for the September dates.

Both federations finalized their agreement during early July negotiations. Vietnam extended a later invitation for two away matches, but Bangladesh officials chose to maintain their original commitment to Nepal. The federation emphasized regional cooperation and honoring previous agreements as reasons for the decision. These matches will prepare Bangladesh for their Asian Cup qualifying campaign against Hong Kong in October.
