Bangladesh U-20 women thrash Sri Lanka 5-0, stay perfect in SAFF Championship

Bangladesh's under-20 women's team defeated Sri Lanka 5-0 during Saturday evening's SAFF Under-20 Women's Championship match at Bashundhara Kings Arena Ground 2. Head coach Peter Butler implemented four changes to his starting lineup for the fifth tournament fixture. Goalkeeper Mst Fardosi Akter Shonale made her debut appearance for the red-and-green squad. The Tigresses dominated proceedings after Kanon Rani Bahadur opened scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty area edge. Puja Das doubled the advantage during first-half stoppage time before completing her brace with a long-range effort in the 73rd minute.

Sree Moti Trishna Rani added the fourth goal in the 86th minute while captain Afeida Khandaker converted a penalty during second-half added time. Butler's side previously demolished Sri Lanka 9-1 in the tournament opener. The Tigresses maintain a perfect record with five victories from five matches. One point from Monday's final group match against Nepal will secure title retention. Nepal defeated Bhutan 8-0 earlier and can claim the championship with a victory against Bangladesh.
