Police took five expensive cars from a bank worker who stole over two million dollars from his job. Cletas Nyakambiro worked at Standard Chartered Bank and was supposed to stop crimes like this. He teamed up with another man to create fake bank accounts. The two men moved money meant for taxes into these false accounts. They used the stolen cash to buy luxury items for themselves.
Nyakambiro faces serious criminal charges for money laundering and fraud. His partner Candrink Kupakuwana has disappeared and police cannot find him. The theft happened back in September 2022 but took years to discover. Officers seized a Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Cruize, Toyota Aqua, Land Rover and Mercedes Benz from the banker. Court records show Standard Chartered lost exactly 2.3 million US dollars and over 500,000 Zimbabwe dollars.
