Barrow Demands Media Accountability Now

President Adama Barrow wants the media and the government to work together. He thinks this will benefit everyone in the country.

President Barrow said this at a special dinner. It was the first time a president had dinner with the media like this, and it happened on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the State House in Banjul.

The President's press office organized the dinner, which they called "Enhancing Government and Media Relations."

President Barrow said that all Gambians have important jobs to do. They need to help make the country better, keep it safe, and help it grow.

He said the media must do its job well and be responsible. He wants journalists to use their skills to help the country.

President Barrow said that in a democracy, the media needs to be free. The government needs to be honest. And everyone needs to follow the law.

He said the media should give people different views on things. This can help the government do a better job.

The President thinks the media is very important. They help make sure the country is democratic.

He wants the media to come together. He wants them to help the country develop and move forward.

The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, liked the dinner. He said it would help the media and the president work together better.

Dr. Ceesay said the media does a good job. They help people know what the government is doing.

"You have an important job," he told the media. "You help make the country more democratic and open. You need to work with the government. But you also need to respect each other."

Amie Bojang Sissoko, who works in the president's press office, planned the dinner. She said they had it outside the newsroom on purpose to bring people together.

Pap Saine spoke for newspapers. He helped start The Point newspaper and said the media and government should be partners.

Mr. Saine asked President Barrow to change some laws. He said these laws make it hard for the media to do their job.

"We like that your government is helping the media," Mr. Saine said. "We might not always agree. But we can talk about it and figure things out."
