Basiru quits Osun race to back Tinubu 2027

Senator Ajibola Basiru has withdrawn from the 2026 Osun State governorship contest, citing his duties as National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress and the need to focus on nationwide responsibilities. Speaking at the commissioning of The Alubarika Movement House in Alekuwodo, Osogbo, he revealed that discussions with party leaders and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu influenced his decision to exit the race.

The former aspirant emphasized that stepping aside allows him to concentrate on strengthening party frameworks and preparing for the 2027 general elections. Basiru clarified that his withdrawal represents a strategic shift rather than an abandonment of his political objectives, pledging to mentor new leaders within the APC.

Despite his personal departure from the gubernatorial contest, Basiru expressed certainty about his party's ability to defeat Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration. The Alubarika Movement will redirect efforts toward securing President Tinubu's reelection in the upcoming presidential poll.
