Beitbridge man jailed for 10 years for cable theft

A Zimbabwean magistrate has sentenced Priseman Moyo to a decade behind bars for severing electrical distribution lines valued at 500 dollars. The 46-year-old defendant removed insulated cables supplying power to the Triple Star shop before processing the material at his residence near the Nuli Business Centre.

Authorities followed physical evidence from the theft scene to a location where Moyo had extracted copper by burning away protective coating, ultimately apprehending him at a retail outlet while carrying 7.2 kilograms of metal. Regional Magistrate Charity Maphosa convicted the Shabwe resident under electricity infrastructure protection statutes after prosecutor Willbrought Muleya demonstrated that Moyo intended to sell recovered copper at Lutumba Growth Point. Police retrieved scrap material worth approximately 29 dollars following the arrest.
