Benapole Land Port Resumes Operations After Strike Withdrawal

Trade activities started again at Benapole Land Port on Monday morning. The NBR Reform Unity Council ended their protest action. About 4,000 workers came back to their jobs at Bangladesh's biggest border crossing. Customs officers and port staff face demands to process delayed shipments quickly. They must finish paperwork for goods waiting at the facility.

Port Director Shamim Hossain confirmed that business between Bangladesh and India returned to normal levels. Mohsin Milan leads the local importers and exporters group. He explained that the crossing stayed shut for two days because of the march against tax authorities. Cargo movement began again after protesters called off their demonstration Sunday evening. Workers started handling freight early Monday.

Around 2,000 trucks from both nations waited near the border during the closure. These vehicles carried various goods for international trade. The shutdown cost the government about 50 crore taka in lost fees. Assistant Commissioner Rajan Hossain works at Benapole Customs House. He said his team resumed checking goods and clearing shipments.

Officials received orders to work extra hours. They must make up for the money lost during the two-day stop. The port handles most trade between the neighboring countries. Border crossings like this one generate important income for the national treasury. Quick processing helps both nations maintain strong business relationships.
