The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department arrested seven foreign nationals and recovered a hijacked trailer loaded with goods worth R1.2 million in Benoni on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025. Acting on a tip about a truck taken in Pretoria earlier that day, officers moved to contain the theft. The suspects are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court as Gauteng authorities confront persistent cargo hijackings that affect businesses and drivers.
At about 9:02 a.m., the EMPD Intervention Unit, private security, and Crime Intelligence raided a plot on Gwendeleon Street in Petit and found the men, ages 25 to 38, offloading stock. Police seized the trailer and cargo and located other suspected stolen items on the property that linked to a Dawn Park case last month. The Local Criminal Record Centre processed fingerprints and collected evidence, and the trailer was towed to the Van Ryn pound for further checks. The suspects are held at Crystal Park Police Station on charges of possessing a hijacked motor vehicle, possessing hijacked stock, and violating the Immigration Act.
