Benue Governor Alia and SGF Akume Reconcile After Months of Tension

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia visited Secretary to the Government George Akume at his Abuja home. The meeting signals an end to months of political tension between the two men. Alia posted about the visit on Facebook, calling it warm and respectful. Both leaders discussed state and national matters during their talk. The governor said they share goals for helping Benue State and Nigeria move forward.

Political problems started between Alia and Akume after the 2023 elections ended. Reports showed the men fought over who would control the All Progressives Congress party structure in Benue. The dispute split party members into different groups. Akume had helped Alia win the governor race as his political mentor. Their relationship became strained over power struggles.

President Bola Tinubu traveled to Benue State recently after attackers killed more than 200 people in Yelwata. The deadly violence shocked residents across the area. Akume also came to the state during this difficult time. Traditional rulers met with Akume and asked him to help bring peace. The tragic events appear to have brought the two politicians back together after their disagreement.
