Benue Reels After Chief Onche Gunned Down

Chief Akatu Augustine Onche died after gunmen attacked his house on March 31. The retired immigration worker lived on Asa 2 street near Otukpo town. Killers shot him during the deadly home invasion. People buried him at St. John's Vianney Catholic Church last week. Family members and friends came to pay their respects to the murdered man.

Senator Abba Moro spoke at the funeral service about his dead friend. Both men studied together at Emmanuel Secondary School many years ago. Moro remembered visiting with Onche and his wife just days before the attack. The senator called the murder a terrible crime against a good person. He described Onche as someone who worked hard to help his community grow better.

The senator asked God to help the sad family during this hard time. He said losing such a good man hurts everyone who knew him. Moro praised Onche for serving his country with honor during his career. The community lost a leader who cared about making life better for others. No one can replace what this man meant to his family and neighbors.
