Bernard Mornah drags Sam George over DSTV bait

Former People's National Convention presidential candidate Bernard Mornah dismissed praise for Communications Minister Sam Nartey George following negotiations with MultiChoice Ghana. Mornah told CTV's Ghana Nkosuo Morning Show on Tuesday that the government promised subscription price cuts but delivered only channel upgrades. He urged George to acknowledge failure rather than present additional channels as relief for economically strained households.

The agreement announced Monday takes effect October 1 and restructures packages while maintaining most current prices. Subscribers to the Padi bouquet at 99 cedis will receive 35 additional channels through an Access upgrade. The Compact Plus bouquet at 865 cedis gains 18 more channels via Premium tier elevation. New customers receive a 555-cedi subsidy, reducing the cost of decoder purchase by half.

George defended the arrangement as beneficial for families and sustainable for Ghana's pay television market. A stakeholder committee will assess results after three months. Officials established a working group to combat cross-border decoder piracy from Nigeria that reduced state revenue and service quality.

Mornah maintained that the government failed to deliver actual fee reductions that citizens demanded during economic hardship.
