BharatPe CEO hails zero MDR push at fintech fest

Sandeep Indurkar, CEO of Payments at BharatPe, on Wednesday credited government initiatives for accelerating India’s digital economy. Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, he said the zero Merchant Discount Rate policy has transformed offline markets, prompting merchants in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to adopt QR-based payments and move away from cash.

Indurkar noted that digital payments now represent both money transfers and data exchange. He said BharatPe aims to keep transactions within merchant platforms to maintain customer connections, supported by a specialist team and an AI co-pilot that assists in payment integration and compliance with banks and the NPCI.

Highlighting BharatPe’s valuation of more than $2 billion in six years, he said fintech growth reflects India’s broader progress. Indurkar added that simple payment tools are empowering small businesses and home-based entrepreneurs, helping them expand their reach and strengthen consumer trust.
