A mining company installed computers and laboratory equipment at a rural Zimbabwe secondary school that operated without such resources for more than four decades. Blanket Mine delivered 50 computers, interactive boards, and a science lab to Sitezi Secondary School in Gwanda as part of its community investment program. The firm also renovated classrooms and supplied furniture to the institution, which opened in 1981.
Form Two student Nomthandazo Ndlovu said the arrival of the technology marked her first computer experience and would help pupils stay competitive in modern society. Form Three learner Brighton Moyo explained that the new lab allows practical work after three years of theory-only science classes. Provincial education director Beatrice Manjere said the upgrades create better teaching conditions and align with national curriculum goals.
Caledonia Mining Corporation, which owns the mine, has spent over 10 million dollars on development projects across Gwanda District since 2022. The company built a maternity shelter, installed solar power at the Sitezi Clinic, and established labs at the secondary school. Officials handed over the facilities to the community at a ceremony at the clinic in Ward 8.
