Opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi attracted a massive turnout on Sunday in Ntungamo District, the political base of President Museveni and home region of Kyagulanyi's spouse Barbara Itungo. The National Unity Platform presidential contender inaugurated party headquarters in Ntungamo Municipality before proceeding to Rubaare for a public gathering that proceeded without incident amid substantial security presence.
Kyagulanyi contested claims of regional economic success, asserting that residents endure persistent financial struggles despite the area's reputation as a government stronghold where Museveni secured 86.52 percent support in the 2021 elections. He attributed widespread poverty to graft, substandard farming supplies, and inadequate medical facilities while encouraging voters to support generational transformation and reject tribal divisions.
Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi, addressing supporters in her native district, advised attendees to accept campaign gifts but cast ballots according to their preferences when polls open on January 15.
