Uganda's Electoral Commission informed the National Unity Platform that insufficient signatures were submitted for presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi-Ssentamu's nomination. Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya expressed shock at the timing, just days before the deadline. The party had repeatedly requested verification updates without receiving responses from election officials. Rubongoya accused the commission of deliberately attempting to block Kyagulanyi's candidacy through procedural obstruction. The opposition submitted signatures from more than 98 districts across the country.
Election officials maintain that the signatures remain inadequate despite the extensive geographical coverage. Rubongoya claimed that supporter intimidation has prevented the party from gathering replacement endorsements. The commission reportedly stated that only President Museveni and several other candidates satisfied signature requirements. Kyagulanyi announced plans for nomination rallies at Katwe Playground and Natete following proper police notification. The candidate urged supporters from 36 districts to submit additional signatures on Saturday.
