Boda Boda Dads Vow to End Schoolgirl Abuse

Boda boda drivers promised to stop sexual abuse against young girls during Father's Day celebrations. The motorcycle taxi operators gathered at Busega suburb and made commitments to protect children. Many people blame these drivers for having multiple girlfriends and seducing schoolgirls. The drivers cause high dropout rates among female students and create single mothers across Uganda. Leaders from the transport industry want to change their reputation through better behavior.

Blasio Konde leads a team of boda boda cyclists and stage chairpersons who spoke at the event. He pledged to teach fellow workers about stopping inappropriate relationships with young passengers. Konde feels sad when drivers have sexual affairs with girls the same age as their daughters. He wants to transport children safely from nursery through university without harming them. The driver believes he should contribute positively to student lives rather than destroying their futures.

Pastor Isaac Mukisa runs Fathers Arise organization and organized the celebration for responsible men. He praised brave boda boda drivers who work hard under difficult conditions to feed their families. Several groups joined the Coalition on Ending Sexual Violence for the Father's Day activities. International Father's Day happens every third Sunday during June to honor men who help their families and communities.
