Boman Irani pays tribute to late actor Asrani

Actor Boman Irani shared memories of working with comedian Asrani for the first time on a film set approximately 10 days before the veteran performer died on Oct. 20 at age 84. Irani posted an Instagram tribute describing how Asrani needed assistance navigating the crowded set, but he transformed when the directors called action. The 84-year-old rushed to the floor on hands and knees to perform a scene where he played a doctor treating Irani's injured character.

Irani said Asrani required help standing after takes ended, but his dedication to the camera remained powerful throughout filming. The younger actor noted that Asrani's energy remained joyful, regardless of age or physical limitations. Funeral services took place on Monday at Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai.

Asrani's social media representatives announced his death from a chest infection at 3 p.m. on Oct. 20. They described him as a comedy legend whose unique acting and humor shaped Indian cinema. Irani concluded that performing before cameras defined Asrani's purpose until his final days.
