Bomb expert busted in G20 security stunt at Nasrec

Authorities detained a security specialist on Monday after he entered the venue for South Africa's upcoming G20 summit without authorization. Jimmy Roodt, who serves as operations director at Gauntlet Security Solutions and holds expertise in bomb disposal, faces trespassing charges following his attempt to demonstrate supposed vulnerabilities in protective measures at the NASREC Expo Centre. Officers apprehended him during what he described as an effort to test defenses before world leaders gather at the Johannesburg location from Nov. 22 through 23.

Deputy Government Spokesperson William Baloyi addressed the arrest on Tuesday, characterizing the swift police response as evidence of adequate preparation for the international gathering. South Africa has completed more than 130 planning sessions since beginning its G20 presidency last December without security problems. The nation holds the rotating leadership position until Nov. 30 under a framework emphasizing solidarity, equality, and sustainability.

Gauntlet Security Solutions operates as a registered private firm holding a rare license for handling explosives among civilian contractors in the country. Investigators found no dangerous materials when they arrested Roodt at the complex.
