Brahman bull fetches record $40,000 from Masuku in Mt Hampden

Zimbabwe's premier livestock auction achieved recordbreaking sales when a Brahman bull commanded $40,000 at Mt Hampden on July 25, 2025. Pilossof Ruvale Brahmans and Beefmasters of Bulawayo bred the champion animal that attracted fierce competition from buyers nationwide, with Lingani Masuku from Gwanda securing the prized bull after intense bidding. The 57th National Breed Sale featured 140 elite animals under Zimbabwe Herd Book organization while a Dorper sheep set national records by selling for $4,300. Deputy Minister Davis Marapira participated actively by purchasing two Dorper sheep while supporting Vision 2030 goals for livestock development. Despite challenges like stock theft and disease, the event demonstrated growing confidence among the nation's 220 registered breeders managing over 24,000 stud animals across multiple breeds.
