Brothers of Brutality Sentenced to 70 Years for Bulawayo Crime Spree

Two brothers received prison sentences totaling 70 years for violent crimes that terrorized Bulawayo residents. Enock Makumbi, 25, and Roy Makumbi, 23, each got 35 years after courts found them guilty of eight serious charges. The crimes happened between November 2024 and January 2025 across Upper Rangemore areas. Western Commonage Court heard evidence about armed robberies, rape, and brutal attacks on innocent people. Magistrate Sibongile Marondedze called the pair dangerous predators who caused severe harm to victims.

The brothers attacked their first victim on November 1, 2024, beating Khanyile Ndlovu with weapons and stealing his phone. Their most serious crime occurred January 2 when Roy raped a woman during a home invasion after questioning her about her health status. The same night they returned to rob the couple again, stealing money and a phone before beating the woman with a whip. Additional attacks targeted other residents near Maranatha High School where they posed as security guards. Detective Brighton Sibanda arrested Enock first after receiving tips about stolen phone sales, leading to Roy's capture in Gokwe.

Roy broke down crying and called for his mother when hearing his sentence. His emotional outburst drew reactions from packed courtroom galleries filled with victims and families. Several victims testified about lasting physical damage and emotional trauma from the attacks. The rape survivor described living in constant fear since the assault. Both brothers denied most charges but failed to provide credible evidence supporting their claims.
