A woman died after jumping into a garden well in Buhera's Munyanyi Village on Saturday afternoon. Police identified the victim as Varaidzo Mubaiwa, 37, who drowned around 2 p.m. at a site owned by Noah Takaendesa, 62.
Authorities say Mubaiwa had tried to harm herself earlier that day by stepping into traffic along the Chivhu-Nyazura Highway. Drivers spotted her and steered clear before any collision occurred. Leeroy Mubaiwa, 17, watched as she entered the well hours later.
Officers at ZRP Dorowa learned the death followed weeks of similar behavior. Investigators said Mubaiwa had struggled with thoughts of self-harm since early in the month. A post-mortem was conducted at Murambinda Mission Hospital.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka asked residents to watch for warning signs among relatives and neighbors. He urged anyone facing distress to contact counselors or mental health professionals.
