A bus crash killed three people and hurt 18 others near Bulawayo on Wednesday evening. The Stallion Cruise bus hit two trucks around 6:30 PM close to the first tollgate at Umguza. Police said the bus driver tried to pass a Volvo truck but moved into traffic coming the other way. The bus crashed head-on with another truck traveling toward them. One person flew from the bus into the truck and died right away.
The bus also hit the first truck from behind during the crash. A woman riding in the second truck died from the crash impact. A third person died at the hospital later that day. Emergency workers took 18 injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment. All three vehicles suffered major damage from the accident.
Police blame the bus driver for driving too fast and making poor choices during the pass attempt. Officers plan to charge him with causing death through careless driving. Inspector Msebele Nomalanga asked drivers to be more careful on the roads. She wants motorists to slow down and follow traffic rules to prevent more deaths.
