Bulawayo church honors Apostle Sawasawa with a memorial service

Thousands gathered on Saturday at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo for memorial services honoring Apostle Haney Resten Sawasawa, founder of the Unshakable Pentecostal Church. The religious leader died in October last year after establishing a movement that expanded to more than 300 congregations across Southern Africa. Relatives and church members unveiled his tombstone at the ceremony.

Sawasawa received ordination as a pastor in 1964 and created the United Pentecostal Church movement three years later. His first services took place beneath a tree in Mpopoma before the ministry relocated to Mabuthweni Hall and eventually settled at Old Magwegwe. Pastor Godfrey Nyoni told mourners the late bishop demonstrated humility and service throughout his work.

Family members praised Sawasawa for teaching love and unity. Pastor Calvin Sawasawa delivered graveside remarks emphasizing the continuing influence of his ministry across multiple generations in the region.
