Bulawayo Golf Qualifier Promises Big Buzz

Harry Allen Golf Club hosts the Sterling Group International Pairs qualifier Saturday. Troutbeck Golf Club runs another qualifier the same day. Both events help golfers reach the world's biggest amateur tournament. Officials want sports and tourism to work together across Zimbabwe.

Deputy Tourism Minister Tongai Mnangagwa spoke at the launch ceremony last week. He said golf helps bring visitors to Zimbabwe from many countries. The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority signed a deal with Albatross Golf Company during 2024. Their partnership creates golf packages for travelers from around the world.

Sterling Group Chairman Wilbert Manyika promised continued support for amateur golfers. The company wants this tournament to become Zimbabwe's top golf event. Martin Chikwana from Zimbabwe Golf Association said golf brings money to local communities. Players spend cash on gas, food and hotels during tournaments.

The national finals happen at Mutola Hills Golf Course during September. International winners travel to Sun City Golf Course for the main event. Defending champions Litchel Maniveyi and Nothando Namuinesu will try to win again. More corporate sponsors joined this year to make bigger prize money possible.
