Bulawayo on Fire to Supercharge Tourism

Bulawayo starts collecting tourism data from June 2 through July 25. City officials want to build a complete Tourism and Hospitality Development Plan. Town clerk Christopher Dube says the research will help make Bulawayo a better tourist destination. Workers will visit hotels, lodges, guest houses, bed and breakfast places, and event centers. The city hopes to become a strong competitor for tourism business.

Data collectors will ask about services, visitor numbers, permits, and room details. They want to know about conference spaces, employee counts, and booking rates. City leaders plan to find gaps and improve digital marketing efforts. The information will help guide future investments and policy decisions. All tourism operators must take part to make the plan work.

Bulawayo has rich history, arts culture, and famous places like the Railway Museum. The National Art Gallery draws visitors but the city remains underused as a tourist spot. Business expert Honest Ngwenya says targeted data collection shows the city takes tourism seriously. Smart use of information can attract investors and improve service quality. City leaders must turn the plan into real action to create jobs and economic growth.
