Bungie showed off gameplay from its upcoming shooter Marathon during a live showcase event. The makers of Halo and Destiny presented early footage of their tactical first-person shooter set in the mysterious world of Tau Ceti IV. Players can sign up through Discord for a chance to join closed testing before the game launches. Marathon will be released on September 23, 2025, on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with cross-platform play features.
The game casts players as Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who explore an abandoned colony. Teams of three compete against rival groups and security forces to collect weapons and upgrades. Everything players find becomes theirs for future missions either on the planet or aboard the Marathon ship above. Death merely slows these synthetic warriors in their quest for power and wealth among warring factions.
Players select from various characters with unique abilities, collecting implants and equipment to build their perfect combat style.
