Burundian Pair Nabbed Skipping Zimbabwe Border

Police arrested two men from Burundi who entered Zimbabwe without papers. Emmanuel Nyandwi, 33, and Obede Tayisenge, 25, must each pay $150 or stay in jail for one month. The court found them guilty of breaking immigration laws after they appeared at Karoi Magistrates Court. Both men will return to their home country soon.

Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department stopped the men at a gas station on May 7. The foreigners tried to catch rides from passing cars when police asked for travel documents. Neither man could show proper papers. The court heard they crossed the border through Chirundu without going through proper checkpoints. Local officials continue to watch border areas for similar cases.
