Independent candidate Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya sustained injuries during a Friday night assault by approximately six attackers armed with machetes at her residence gate in Mbarara City North Division. The assailants confronted the Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament hopeful around 1:00 a.m., demanding access to her mobile device before striking her vehicle and fleeing with the phone.
Kashaya received treatment at Western Medical and Maternity Centre following the incident. Rwizi Region police representative Samson Kasasira confirmed authorities began investigating the attack. Denis Twahika, the Member of Parliament for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, condemned the violence and urged security forces to prosecute those responsible for targeting the candidate.
