Businesswoman charged for selling drinks suspected to contain cannabis

An Accra Circuit Court granted bail to a 45-year-old entrepreneur accused of manufacturing and distributing beverages allegedly containing cannabis at her establishment in Taifa. Millicent Asamoah Ampofo appeared before the tribunal on charges related to illegal narcotic possession after Criminal Investigations Department officers seized 47 bottles of sobolo, 20 mango beverages, 23 containers of unidentified liquids, dried plant matter, powdered substances, and 180 toffee pieces during a November 5 operation.

The defendant acknowledged ownership of the confiscated materials during questioning and identified her supplier as Richard, an Accra resident who remains at large. Court documents indicate she sold sobolo for five cedis per bottle, mango drinks for 20 cedis, and individual toffees for five cedis each.

Judge Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah set bail at 50,000 cedis with one guarantor while authorities await forensic laboratory analysis of the suspected substances. Prosecutors expressed no opposition to the release terms.
