Parliament already approved Kabale becoming a city but money problems stop the plan from working. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa spoke at the opening of a new 8.4-kilometer road that connects Kabale to Lake Bunyonyi. The government wants to fix roads first before starting the city operations. Local leaders hope the new road brings more tourists to the area. Lake Bunyonyi attracts many visitors because of its beautiful scenery.
Cabinet and Parliament both said yes to making Kabale a city back in 2020 along with four other places. The government keeps waiting because they need more cash to run new cities properly. Finance Minister Henry Musasizi said creating new areas costs too much and hurts other services like schools and hospitals. He criticized politicians who push for city status just to create more jobs for themselves. The minister told ambitious leaders to run for offices that already exist instead of demanding new positions.
