CCC Faction Gears Up for Key Congress Amid Leadership Tussle

CCC Faction Led by Tshabangu Plans Party Congress.

A faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) says it will hold a party congress soon. Sengezo Tshabangu leads the faction. He calls himself the interim secretary-general.

Mbuso Siso works closely with Tshabangu. He said court cases have delayed setting a date for the congress. The cases are between Tshabangu and Welshman Ncube, the acting CCC leader.

Siso said they are getting ready for the congress. "We are meeting people across the country," he said. "We want to see our support at the grassroots level."

The faction does not accept Ncube as the leader. They say he has lost the people's backing.

"The MDC party started in Matabeleland," Siso said. "We can find a good leader from this region."

He said Ncube is using old structures from 2019. The courts canceled these. Siso said Tshabangu's CCC is a new group formed in 2022.

Siso wants the government to negotiate with parties before the elections. "We need to talk about changes to the election rules," he said.

Nqobizitha Mlilo speaks for the faction. He says the opposition party has clear weaknesses. "We are working to fix them," he says. It is too early to talk about who will run in the congress. We are focused on getting ready for it."
