The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has secured a strong victory in the Northern Zone during last week's General Elections, producing the highest number of parliamentary winners in the region.
In Arusha Urban Constituency, CCM’s Paul Makonda dominated the race with 370,588 votes, accounting for 96.17 percent of the total ballots cast. His closest competitors were John Lema of the CHAUMA party and veteran journalist Said Njuki of ACT-Wazalendo, who each received a small fraction of the vote.
CCM candidates also triumphed in several other constituencies across the region. In Monduli, Isack Joseph won with 131,432 votes, defeating his rival from the CHAUMMA party. Dr. Steven Kiruswa retained his seat in Longido, capturing 99.07 percent of the vote, while in Ngorongoro, Yannick Ndoinyo, also of CCM, won with 94 percent of the votes. Joshua Nassary secured a decisive win in Arumeru East, receiving 86 percent of the vote.
Other CCM victories included Daniel Awack in Karatu and Asia Halamga in Hanang, the latter of whom ran unopposed and garnered 99.3 percent of the vote. In addition, CCM won all 14 councilor seats in Karatu.
