Chaos at Kalerwe market as troops kill bomber suspect

Security forces killed a woman who tried to attack Kalerwe market with a bomb. The female suspect carried dangerous explosives and worked with the Allied Democratic Forces terror group. Army officers had watched her movements for three days before the deadly shooting. She refused to stop when security teams confronted her outside the busy marketplace. Soldiers fired their weapons and killed her right away.

The woman had traveled to the market on a motorcycle taxi from Busega area. Police are searching for the motorcycle rider who brought her there. One person got hurt during the security operation that happened early Sunday morning. Army spokesman Felix Kulayigye said they knew about her plans to bomb the market. Security teams blocked many roads around Kalerwe after the incident ended.

Market sellers ran away when gunfire started around six in the morning. Vendors knocked over their stalls and goods as they escaped the dangerous situation. Many people screamed about bombs and terrorists during the panic. Mustafa Lukenge sells items at the market and heard rumors about terror threats. He said most people did not believe the warnings until bullets began flying everywhere.

Police commander Moses Nanoka visited the market after everything calmed down. He told vendors to watch for suspicious people carrying bags or acting strangely. Another female bomber was shot near Uganda Martyrs Basilica earlier this month. Security officials worry that terror groups are planning more attacks on busy public places around the city.
