Cheap MacBook ditches A15, A18 Pro takes the wheel

Apple's rumored budget MacBook might have undergone testing with an older A15 Bionic chip, according to a leaked developer kit. Internal project labels reference this configuration alongside another model with a newer A18 Pro processor. Industry watchers believe the A18 Pro version is the probable candidate for final production.

Using a chip from five years ago would likely frustrate informed consumers, especially since the current base iPad ships with a faster processor. The A18 Pro offers significantly better performance and longevity. This cost-saving measure seems inconsistent with Apple's typical silicon strategy for new products.

The device is expected to feature a display around thirteen inches, similar to the existing MacBook Air. A launch is anticipated early next year, potentially with multiple color options targeting a younger audience. The final specs will determine its position against Apple's own iPad and Air lineups.
