Cherargei urges Uganda, Tanzania to act on Kenyan activists

Kenyan Senator Samson Cherargei has urged Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu to expel Kenyan activists accused of meddling in neighboring countries' internal affairs. Speaking on Monday, Cherargei emphasized that regional cooperation through education, business, and marriage does not extend to exporting political activism, warning that such interference undermines sovereignty and stability within East African Community nations.

The senator's remarks followed the Thursday release of Kenyan activists Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi after 38 days of detention in Uganda. The pair disappeared on October 1 following their participation in opposition politician Bobi Wine's campaign activities in Buyende and Kamuli districts, with witnesses reporting armed individuals forcing them into a vehicle at a petrol station on October 2.

Museveni claimed on Saturday that intelligence linked the detained Kenyans to organizing riots as advisors to the opposition leader's political organization. Human rights organization VOCAL Africa condemned the detentions after Ugandan police initially denied holding the activists in custody.
