Chiefs hit Orbit 4-1 to join Sundowns at top, Shabalala stars

Kaizer Chiefs matched Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership standings after defeating Orbit College 4-1 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night. Mduduzi Shabalala scored twice and set up another goal as the Johannesburg club extended their league record to six consecutive matches without losing while reaching 22 points from their campaign.

Shabalala opened the scoring during the fourth minute when Thabiso Monyane delivered a cutback pass that the midfielder converted for his second league strike this term. He added his third seasonal goal after the interval by finishing a rebound in the 61st minute following Etiosa Ighodaro's saved attempt. Mfundo Vilakazi curled home his first league goal of the season during the 73rd minute after receiving a pass from Shabalala. Substitute Ayanda Lukhele briefly reduced the deficit for Orbit with a header, but Flavio Silva restored the three-goal margin late in the contest.

Chiefs trail first-place Sundowns only through inferior goal difference while maintaining form across five games in all tournaments. The victory pushed Orbit from 11th position down to 12th place ahead of the international break. Both sides return to action on Nov. 22.
