Chihana vows no hunger deaths in Karonga

Second Vice President Enock Chihana has pledged that the government will prevent hunger-related deaths in Karonga through emergency maize imports from Zambia for distribution across affected areas. The official addressed traditional leaders, business representatives, youth delegates, and council members at Karonga Museum, noting that the district experiences regular drought conditions requiring immediate intervention while possessing significant mineral wealth, including uranium deposits that remain underdeveloped.

Paramount Chief Kyungu emphasized that progress requires social cohesion and mutual respect among communities. Business sector representative Winston Manda raised concerns about inadequate waste management infrastructure, the absence of garbage collection vehicles, and deteriorating conditions at the main market facility requiring government attention.
