A rising musician has backed out of a major festival in Germany. Chillmaster was supposed to perform at the MOTO MOTO Festival on July 19 in Cologne. He earned his spot after winning the NAMA Outstanding Breakthrough Musician award. The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe said unforeseen circumstances forced the cancellation. Zimdancehall artist Nisha Ts will replace him at the event.
The council picked Nisha Ts because she came second for the same honor. Officials want to keep supporting local artists on international stages. Chillmaster faces legal problems that might explain his withdrawal. He was convicted of culpable homicide and fined just 200 dollars. The musician also drove without a proper license.
A court recently decided not to send him to jail for the crimes. The High Court will review the case to see if justice was served properly. Judge President Zimba-Dube will make that decision.
