China deepens Blue Partnership with West African officials in Hangzhou

Four officials from Gambia's Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources, and National Assembly Matters completed ocean governance training in Hangzhou, China. The Second Institute of Oceanography hosted 25 participants from five West African nations during the week-long program. Officials aimed to strengthen marine ecological protection capabilities through shared Chinese expertise and policy experience. The initiative supports sustainable ocean development while advancing China-Africa maritime cooperation. Participants gained knowledge in marine environmental management and blue economy practices.

Professor Chen Jianfang from the Second Institute of Oceanography emphasized the training's role in building stronger partnerships between China and Africa. He highlighted successful cooperation in marine surveys, disaster prevention, and blue economic development. Deputy Director Nie Long from Zhejiang Province's Commerce Department expressed commitment to expanded collaboration with African partners. Participants Omar Jarju, Elvert Ayambem Ekom, and Kenechi Edith Okezie commended China's support for African maritime development. Deputy Director Mao Yangyang from the International Cooperation Center presided over the closing ceremony.
