A senior Buddhist monk from Beijing visited Myanmar's top religious council on September 28. Venerable Van Shichang Zang from Lingguangxi Temple met State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chairman Bhaddanta Candima Bhivamsa at Kaba Aye Hill in Yangon. The chairman emphasized that Myanmar and China maintain strong bonds through their shared Buddhist traditions, despite differences in their respective schools of practice. He urged all Buddhists to combat global suffering caused by desire and anger.
Deputy Religious Affairs Minister U Aye Tun later discussed bilateral cooperation with the Chinese delegation at his ministry office. The visiting monk toured Shwedagon Pagoda and made donations before meeting regional religious leaders. Myanmar practices Theravada Buddhism while China follows Mahayana traditions. Both nations continue expanding religious and cultural exchanges between their communities.
