China tops buyers of Myanmar rice in FY 2025-26 first half

China purchased more than one million tons of Myanmar rice between April and September, making it the top buyer for the six-month period. Indonesia ranked second with 267,882 tons, while the Philippines bought 211,464 tons and Belgium imported 192,055 tons. Myanmar earned $408 million from shipping 1.2 million tons of rice and broken rice to 14 countries through ocean routes.

The Myanmar Rice Federation set a goal of three million tons for the full fiscal year after the nation exported 2.48 million tons worth $1.129 billion in the previous 12 months. Monthly shipments peaked in May at 529,500 tons before dropping to 168,045 tons by September. Trade officials work with agricultural and manufacturing groups to reach export benchmarks.
