Police in Harare nabbed a Chinese guy named Ke Ji Xiao after they raided his spot in Alexandra Park and found nearly 193k USD just sitting there. Cops say he was running an underground Hawala banking setup that dodged the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe by taking local cash from people and then having suppliers in China get paid directly instead of going through official channels.
The bust went down as part of Operation Pressure Valve, which targets sketchy financial operations and fuel scams. Detectives grabbed a bunch of receipts and paperwork they claim prove he was moving money outside the system, and he apparently had no explanation for where all that cash came from.
