Former Nigeria President Obasanjo asked Nigerians to give generously, saying charity brings heavenly rewards. He spoke at an event in Abeokuta, showing plans for rebuilding the Egba Central Mosque with a new Islamic Center. Obasanjo urged everyone, regardless of faith, to help make this project happen. The effort aims to unite people through shared community goals.
Ogun State Governor Abiodun, represented by Deputy Salako-Oyedele, called the project important for Egba people, especially Muslims. He praised Obasanjo for building religious harmony across different faiths. Abiodun promised his government would pay for the mosque's administrative block and library as part of their support.
Many leading Nigerians have already donated to the mosque project, including the Sultan of Sokoto, the Alake of Egbaland, former governors, and business leaders. The Sultan personally promised to ask other influential Nigerians for help finishing the mosque. The Alake emphasized how this long-needed renovation preserves religious heritage for future generations.
The renovation includes adding a Quranic Academy, a multipurpose hall, a medical center, a shopping complex, and a guest house. Project leader Tunji-Kalejaiye said 78 houses near the mosque will be removed. People living there will receive new homes on 22 acres of land in the Sodeke-Titun Sabo area.
