Chowdhury refutes claims of mass arrests in Gopalganj

Bangladesh's Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury addressed reporters about the Gopalganj situation after attending a law and order committee meeting. The retired military official rejected claims that authorities conducted widespread arrests during recent events. He emphasized that law enforcement targets only individuals who committed actual crimes rather than pursuing mass detention operations. Chowdhury instructed security forces to apprehend guilty parties while protecting innocent citizens from wrongful arrest. The adviser stated he lacked information regarding reports of nine children being detained.

Officials have eased curfew restrictions in the Gopalganj district while preparing to lift section 144 orders gradually.
