Police are investigating a church brawl in Kariobangi North that left six people hurt and set off a political blame game. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says cops and hired thugs attacked the PCEA Church congregation with gunfire and tear gas during a service for a winning ward candidate, and he claims it was payback for voters rejecting a UDA pick. Two DCP supporters got seriously injured in what he called a total violation of sacred space.
Police spokesman Michael Muchiri tells a completely different story. Officers spotted two groups of armed young guys heading toward the church as the Thanksgiving service wrapped up, and they called backup to stop a clash from happening. The fight broke out anyway and spilled onto church grounds, but authorities say no tear gas was used inside the building, and church leaders backed that up. The service finished peacefully after the chaos had settled down.
Cops are calling the whole thing planned violence, and investigators are going all in to figure out what actually went down. Anyone who saw anything can hit up local stations or use the toll-free hotlines.
