The head of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Oluropo Dada, told students at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos that they need to get ready for a changing finance world. He spoke at a career event with the school, pushing for professional certs and pointing to new chances in digital assets. The recent update to Nigeria's Investment and Securities Act now formally includes crypto and digital assets as traded products, a move he called a major shift, aligning the country with global markets.
Dada thanked the college's management, represented by Deputy Rector Dr. Ismail Badmus, for the partnership. He said their institute is the official group that trains and certifies investment pros in Nigeria, a job that goes beyond tests to building skills and ethics. Because of the legal change, members with a CIS certification can officially handle and advise on digital asset products now. This puts them right in the middle of a hot part of global finance, covering things like tokenized securities and fintech.
He specifically pointed undergrads toward a program called the Certified Securities and Investment Support Specialist, or CSISS. It is a flexible online course meant to give a foundation in market operations and newer areas like digital assets while students are still in school. Other speakers from firms like CardinalStone Partners also talked about market opportunities. The event wrapped up with the launch of a student investment club by the CIS registrar, Ayorinde Adeonipekun.
